Photoblog: Camp Whittleson

Great photoblog, Matt! I don't even remember you taking pictures. That must be because you only took candid snapshots when no one was looking. Very clever.
A few thoughts about Camp Whittleson: nothing more, nothing less:
1. It just wasn't the same without everyone there.
While I'm sure I speak for all White-Ettleson constituents when I say we had a lot of fun, the trip was lacking the traditional family elements that make Camp Slaw so memorable.
2. We blended in better at the Abbey this time.
Usually we are so engrossed in our own activities at Camp Slaw that we rarely step outside our insular family world to try a different perspective. There was no large group of 25 people eating together at dinner or congregating by the pool. There is nothing wrong with standing out- it wouldn't be Camp Slaw if we didn't. Perhaps that's my point.
3. Tradition is great, but can be limiting.
Consider those few corn filled pictures in the montage. It seems unlikely that we would have gone to the Walworth Corn and Brat Fest as part of Camp Slaw (mainly because of time and logisitcal reasons)- and I really enjoyed my brat and corn. A lot of Camp Slaw is spent poolside because that is how we operate; we were busier at Camp Whittleson.
4. Goodbye to the Abbey?
As stated in the previous observations, change can be good. In my opinion, I think the Abbey experience for Camp Slaw has run its course (or at least needs a break). We have to drive to the tennis courts, which is annoying; we drove back to Illinois for golf (again); I think I sat in the same 5 foot vicinity at Gordy's for the third year in a row...
Camp Whittleson was good. Let's make next year's Camp Slaw great.
Wonderful pics. I was quite nostalgic looking at them. Your thoughts about your return visit to the Abbey has been mentioned several times. Since Gramp and I are not on the planning committee it should be taken up by the proper authorities! We will be happy to listen to any and all suggestions to make our Camp Slaw a rousing success for everyone. nontheless, we were happy to hear that a good time was had at Camp Whittleson even without the rest of us. Let's all brainstorm (after the wedding) and we'll see what we come up with. Let the younger minds prevail.....xxxxxxxxx
Camp Ettlewhite! What is this Whittleson business? Besides that major issue, I liked the montage. Sara's right, I didn't see you taking pictures on our trip. I think we had fun, but, I agree, it just wasn't the same.
